META (Megachannel Extra-Terrestrial Assay): A spectrum analyzer that had the capacity 8.4 million channels and used the frequency Doppler shift to distinguish between signals of terrestrial and extraterrestrial origin.

MOP (Microwave Observing Program): A government and SETI project that performed a targeted search of 800 specific nearby stars, along with a “Sky Survey” to scan the sky.

optical telescope: A telescope that gathers and focuses light from the visible part of electromagnetic spectrum to make a magnified image.
